With the departure of Stefano Maffulli this month, OSI is now opening its search for a new executive director. We are greatly appreciative of Maffulli’s work over the last four years and look forward to what our next ED will build upon his foundation.
Key tasks and goals for the first year in this role will include continuing to build greater participatory engagement within the broader Open Source community and growing our sponsorship base. It will also be an opportunity to lead collaborative development of the evolution of the Open Source AI Definition (OSAID) and to have a visible role in global policy and regulatory concerns.
A successful candidate’s skills will include experience building relationships with a variety of international stakeholders, US 501(c)(3) operations and fundraising, and involvement in policy and advocacy efforts. Demonstrated community building and an understanding of the current Open Source ecosystem and its future in a global context are critical.
This is a full-time role, fully remote, reporting to the board of directors, with a competitive salary commensurate with experience. We anticipate posting a full job description and accepting applications beginning in late October with a targeted start date at the beginning of 2026.
Meanwhile, interested candidates can direct questions to staffing-committee@opensource.org to reach the OSI search committee, or you may make inquiries directly of Deb Bryant (interim executive director) and Tracy Hinds (chair of the OSI board of directors) by emailing ed-questions@opensource.org. Bryant as well as several OSI directors will also be present at All Things Open in Raleigh, NC, October 12-14, and welcome questions there.
